Fallen Leaves

This time of year is so beautiful here in Nanaimo, so I took this weekend to take full advantage of the outdoors, and try to get some cool shots. I can't believe how lucky I am to literally live across the street from the park I fell in love with on summer vacations as a kid. Time has a very strange way of completely blowing your mind every once and a while, its a crazy life, but I'm loving it thus far. Unfortunately I didn't take nearly enough pictures. Stay posted for more pictures as fall here just keeps getting more and more awesome. Only bad thing is the snails and slugs seem to be gone for good. Hopefully this week I'll have time to get out and get some more shots of the awesome world I'm surrounded by right now. Anyways, thanks for stopping by!

Hover Fly

Basically the Arthropod version of a hummingbird, these little flies busily hover from one flower to the next, often stopping perfectly still except for their frantically buzzing wings in mid air. I didn't realize they were out this late in the year but that probably has something to do with not being in Alberta any more, a realization that hasn't quite set in yet in the "what's still alive outside" part of my brain. This was taken in down town Victoria where, again to my surprise, there are still flowers blooming everywhere. If you get the chance to watch one of these, take a minute to appreciate their spectacular aerial tenure, and don't let there wasp-like appearance deter you from getting nice and close, they couldn't hurt a fly.

Fall

Fall is finally here and Nanaimo has never looked so beautiful. A couple days of nice weather and a few cancelled classes resulted in enough time to get out and rip around on my bike. I'm trying to enjoy the outdoors as much as I can before the rain sets in for good, hopefully not anytime soon. The railroad tracks through town are a quick easy way to get around on a bike, and there is some really cool places you end up passing through. Can't wait for more leaves to turn, so I can get out and start getting in the Halloween spirit.

About Me

My photo
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Just a dude with some pens, pencils, markers, and a camera. The natural world is my inspiration for all my art, I often borrow concepts and ideas from the creepy crawly inhabitants living in my back yard, on the beach, or in books I read. I also get alot of my ideas by the visuals in my head I get upon contemplating the titles of songs from many of my favorite bands. Most of which are metal bands, needless to say there are some interesting song titles within the genre. As of late I have had a re-awakening of the spider lover within me, reminiscent of my days as a young boy out in the yard with a magnifying glass.
