When I think of Alberta I often think of the rolling foothills and seas of waving grass, shadowed to the west by the great Rocky Mountains. But I also have always been akin to the arid desert-like climate of southeastern Alberta. There is something so captivating about its flat grassy plateaus, meandering badlands river valleys, and hot dry climate. But when I think of this area I often think of Drumheller, or Dinosaur Provincial Park, and the Milk River area. Never in my history as an Albertan have I reflected upon Medicine Hat, or what it must be like there. In my mind it was a forgotten place near the eastern edge of the province that I really had no intention of visiting, unless perhaps passing through on my way east across Canada. So when I found out that I would be there for work in the beginning of May, I really didn't know what to expect and I would be lying to say that I expected much of anything, least of all I didn't expect to be blown away by this beautiful jewel of Southern Alberta.
Medicine Hat is a lush, green, historic community nestled in the river valley of the South Saskatchewan River. It is a super cool place with a lot of quirky little shops, a cute little downtown core, a wicked little part of town known as the Historic Clay District where I-XL bricks were made, and awesome parks and trails. I have never been more impressed by a community than Medicine Hat, I highly recommend visiting.
The saying goes to show, don't judge a book by its..... hat?
Who knew in addition to being a great photographer that you have a way with words too?!
