Seasonal

It's been a while (again) and I need to get better at doing this more regularly and taking photos and being creative and ALL THAT STUFF. But in the meantime here is some of the latest from this fall and now more recently winter. Enjoy and I will be hopefully posting more pictures before Christmas time! Thanks for checking it out!

Miscellazy-ous

As the summer went on I kind of just got continually more and more busy and less and less in touch with my laptop, the resulting blog drought lasted quite some time but I\m glad to say that I am committing to taking more photos and looking forward to uploading some recent artwork again in the coming weeks! This is basically a photo dump of my favorite photos of the last month or so, with my favorite being the very first picture which I feel sums up everything that I love about my homeland in a fuzzy minimalist kinda way. Thanks for stopping by once again and I hope everyone is having a wicked summer!

Smoky Skies, Buzzing Flies

Its summer in Alberta! Super stoked to be here, and I've been lucky enough to get to travel all over this beauty of a province this summer. Here are a few little tidbits that I have been meaning to put up from my recent adventures. I hope everyone is having a great summer, party on.

Medicine Hat; Alberta's Best Kept Secret

When I think of Alberta I often think of the rolling foothills and seas of waving grass, shadowed to the west by the great Rocky Mountains. But I also have always been akin to the arid desert-like climate of southeastern Alberta. There is something so captivating about its flat grassy plateaus, meandering badlands river valleys, and hot dry climate. But when I think of this area I often think of Drumheller, or Dinosaur Provincial Park, and the Milk River area. Never in my history as an Albertan have I reflected upon Medicine Hat, or what it must be like there. In my mind it was a forgotten place near the eastern edge of the province that I really had no intention of visiting, unless perhaps passing through on my way east across Canada. So when I found out that I would be there for work in the beginning of May, I really didn't know what to expect and I would be lying to say that I expected much of anything, least of all I didn't expect to be blown away by this beautiful jewel of Southern Alberta.

Medicine Hat is a lush, green, historic community nestled in the river valley of the South Saskatchewan River. It is a super cool place with a lot of quirky little shops, a cute little downtown core, a wicked little part of town known as the Historic Clay District where I-XL bricks were made, and awesome parks and trails. I have never been more impressed by a community than Medicine Hat, I highly recommend visiting.

The saying goes to show, don't judge a book by its..... hat?

Ammonite Falls

This is one of the coolest spots that I have been so far in Nanaimo, right off the end of Jameson Road this half hour hike to the falls is totally worth checking out. It gets its name from fossilized ammonites that are in the rock surrounding the waterfall. The best part is the ropes you have to use to get down the steep muddy bank down to the falls, pretty awesome. Some day I would like to go back and throw something off it, or at least throw a big log in and watch it go over, or maybe a flaming boat like a viking burial...

Sunny Days!

As the weather has been unbelievable and classes have been winding down, me an Jenny have been outside doing as much as we can that has nothing to do with school. These pictures are from Colliery Dam Park, Stephenson Point Beach, and of course Bowen Park. Last night was a clear full moon night and I got some awesome photos in the moonlight of the pulp mill and the moon and beach. Hopefully the wicked weather keeps up. The photos of the moon and the mill I took with my old Nikon telephoto lens using my NX to F mount lens adapter which lets me use my old Nikon lenses for my 35mm film camera on my Samsung NX body. I got it on eBay for $22, totally worthwhile. I hope you enjoy, and I am looking forward to coming home to Alberta with a hunger to explore more of my own beautiful province, a journey I think is long overdue.

Spring!

Spring is finally here after all the rain and grayness! It was plus 15 and sunny all weekend so with some serious motivation we tackled the homework situation and made some time for ourselves to get out and enjoy the awesome weather, after tanning on the roof and getting a little burned we went out and revisited Sugarloaf Mountain which has an awesome view of the ocean and the city. Then we checked out Buttertubs Marsh, as I haven't been there in ages and Jenny had never been, it was so beautiful and hot. Sunday we went skiing but unfortunately no pictures from that adventure. Can't wait for more nice weather, and photo opportunities!

About Me

My photo
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Just a dude with some pens, pencils, markers, and a camera. The natural world is my inspiration for all my art, I often borrow concepts and ideas from the creepy crawly inhabitants living in my back yard, on the beach, or in books I read. I also get alot of my ideas by the visuals in my head I get upon contemplating the titles of songs from many of my favorite bands. Most of which are metal bands, needless to say there are some interesting song titles within the genre. As of late I have had a re-awakening of the spider lover within me, reminiscent of my days as a young boy out in the yard with a magnifying glass.
